Reminders

Hello parents!

Just a few reminders again!

·      Monday is going to be “Grinch Day” in the classroom. If your children want to come dressed in Green or “Grinchy”, they may do that. We will be doing Grinch-themed ELA and math activities all day (as well as going to Lightbulb Lab). We watched the Grinch cartoon today with our Third Grade Leadership Buddies to set the tone!
·      Tuesday is Polar Express Literacy Day. Your children should come dressed in their most comfy pajamas! It will be a day full of Polar Express themed ELA activities as well as cocoa, candy canes, and the movie “Polar Express”!
·      Wednesday will be the Book Exchange and the Holiday party. Please remember to send in a gender neutral book for the book exchange. It can new or gently used. I will do the book exchange Wednesday morning, and the holiday party will be at 1:00.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

December 5 - 9

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

What is Your Child Learning this Week?
In Math, we will be reviewing some past concepts like graphing, fact families, adding and subtracting to 20, balancing equations, missing addends and subtrahends, practicing more with 10 more, 10 less than a number and problem solving. During Reading, we will be working on determining main idea and details and identifying author's reasons to support a point in the text. In Writing we are working on explanatory writing. Students will complete their How To Build A Snowman, and they can begin How To Decorate A Christmas Tree.  In Social Studies, we are finishing up Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea.

This week I will be sending home a letter about our Book Exchange.  We will be having this on the day of our Holiday Party.  Please send in the books as soon as you can so that I can make sure we have enough for each students.

DON'T FORGET THE HERO WRITING
EVERYDAY HEROES: THE POWER OF ONE

We are excited to be kicking off the 2016-17 Honoring Our Heroes Essay program on November 11th, Veterans Day. Honoring Our Heroes is a writing program that encourages students to discover, honor, and write about real-life heroes - role models displaying generosity, trust, persistence, dedication, leadership, creativity, caring, bravery, imagination, service, gentleness, courage or compassion.  Students are asked to redefine media-hyped and cartoon heroes such as professional athletes, movie stars, and rock musicians and instead recognize someone who has made a more personal impact on the student's life such as a family member, doctor, public safety officer, soldier, or teacher.

What a great opportunity to honor someone who may not even know what a difference they are making in your child’s life!

The rules of this writing contest are:

Essay Rules and Guidelines
1.      The essay can be handwritten or typed.
2.      The essay must be on one single sheet of 8½ x 11-inch paper
(Single or double-sided but no more than one sheet of paper)
3.      Completed entry form below must be attached to essay
4.      Student name ONLY should be placed in top right corner of the essay;
NO other identifying information should be on the essay.
5.      A picture of the hero should be attached if possible.
Label the picture on the back with the student’s name.

Entries will be judged on the student’s ability to articulate the qualities of the hero and to describe the manner in which the hero has impacted the student’s life.
ECCC will hold a special reception to recognize the first place winner from each grade level at each school.
