KIDS NIGHT OUT

Guess what?  On November 11th, Addison is hosting a Kids' Night Out!  There are 35 spots open for a Dinner and a Movie drop off event with 5 of Addison's teachers! Check out the auction site and sign up!   www.biddingowl.com/addisonelementary

Register first with an alias user name and then place your bid on an open spot.

It's only $20 for your child to be watched, fed, and entertained for 2 1/2 hours!!

This is set up like an auction - after all 35 spots are filled at the starting bid of $20, you can be outbid...so watch out!  This is a Foundation fundraiser to continue to support the Science Lab that we love.  If you have any questions, please contact Laura Glancy at lauragpta@gmail.com

And stay tuned - on December 4th there will be a really special after school experience with Mr. Cohen - an Improv Class for 15 lucky participants!

October 24 - 28

Thank you so much for coming to your child's conference last week. It was great to see everyone and share your child's progress! I also cannot thank you enough for the classroom books. We are all so excited to have them!
What is Your Child Learning this Week?
In Math we will be working on finding missing addends and subtrahends. We will talk about how they are connected to what we know about fact families, decomposing and part-part whole. I have put a video under Parent Resources talking about missing addends if you want to check it out. I will try to get more videos on my blog for your reference. We have already been practicing with adding and subtracting to 20, and we will continue with this and extension. In Reading, we will begin to talk about homophones and continue to discuss Main Idea and details. In Writing, we will begin talking about Informative writing. In Social Studies we will begin learning about Continents and Oceans. The students must be able name and identify the 7 continents and 4 of the oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, Indian). There are different activities on my blog under the Social Studies section if your child would like to practice. Students who are able to do this already will begin independent research projects. We will be learning about Magnets in Science Lab.

At Addison we take Attendance seriously.
The classroom in each grade level that has the best percent attendance will be recognized with playground equipment. The classroom winners will be recognized during announcements. The winners will also be displayed on the cafeteria bulletin board. In addition, we will also recognize classrooms that have had the best overall attendance during a 9 week grading period. The students in these classrooms will receive a Partners in Ed. treat from Mr. Cohen.

Front Row Math
All of the students have now begun practicing on Front Row Math. If you want to practice at home, the website is

I will also put a link on my blog under the Math section.

The students will complete pretests which will level the activities for them. There are different resources available within the tests and activities to help the students with different concepts. I will be able to monitor his/her progress.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Attendance Incentive

Parents,
Beginning this month Addison will be starting a few school-wide attendance incentives. We know that attendance directly impacts our school’s CCRPI score, and we want Addison to have the highest score possible! Please try to have your children come to school each day as long as they are healthy and to schedule doctor’s appointments after 11:15 AM.
The classroom in each grade level that has the highest % attendance will be recognized with playground equipment. The classroom winners will be recognized during announcements. The winners will also be displayed on the cafeteria bulletin board. In addition, classrooms with the best overall attendance during a 9 week grading period will be recognized. The students in these classrooms will receive a Partners in Ed. treat from Mr. Cohen.
Thank you.
