What is Your Child Learning this Week? In Math we are continuing our unit on Place Value. We will be building numbers from 11-99 using base ten blocks and units. We will be using crackers, pretzels and marshmallows to help us!!  During Language Arts we will be focusing on S-family blends and the students will begin learning more about the Daily 5 centers. We are still working on our "Read to Someone" stamina which needs to be mastered before we can start our Daily 5 rotations. I am anxious to get the Daily 5 process started so I can begin pulling reading groups. In writing, we will continue learning about writing Narratives in 1st grade. We have completed our unit on Weather in Science so this week we are moving into Social Studies.  We will begin learning about our first American Hero, Benjamin Franklin. We will visit the Media center on Tuesday, so please return the library books.

****From the Foundation:
Do you want to see Mrs. Hallmark and Mr. Cohen be on the roof top?  Or maybe KISS A PIG! or even get taped to a wall?  You can and will if we make our Foundation goals.  Please consider donating to our Foundation.  Any amount is welcomed and it's for a great cause.  One of the biggest benefits from Foundation is our Science Lab and Mrs. Knobbe and you know how much your child LOVES the Science Lab.  Also, the classroom with the most donations will receive an IPad for the classroom!   Deadly for donations is September 9th. Weather Wrap-Up

We had a BLAST wrapping up our weather unit today. First, we had our own "Olaf", and we discussed the weight of water as a solid and/or liquid. We weighed Olaf in the morning and check him all day long. The students watched as he melted, but the weight did not change.

Also, we made fake snow and compared and contrasted real snow and fake snow based on what the student's know about real snow. They each got to play with it, and we made a little snow man.

It was a fun day. :)
