Dear First Grade Addison Grandparents,

In honor of Grandparent’s Day, the First Grade teachers would like to invite grandparents to visit their grandchild’s classroom and read to the class! If your child does not have an available grandparent, please feel free to invite a special person in their life. This is a day to celebrate grandparents and the important role they play in a child’s life!

Please join us on Friday, September 11, 2015 as we celebrate Grandparents!

You may use the link listed below to go to Sign Up Genius and choose a time. Please try to sign up by Friday, September 4, 2015.

We look forward to seeing you!

Hello Parents!

It looks like Kids A-Z (previous RAZ Kids) is up and running. I have placed the students' passwords in the agenda on the first page where the First In Math passwords are. If you go to my Reading/Language Arts links on the side of the blog, you will see "Kids A-Z". Just click on that link and it should take you to the place where your child chooses his/her name and enters the password.

If the link or something is not working, please let me know so that I can resolve the issue.

Also, if your child begins reading and the books are too hard to too easy, just let me know. Sometimes what is in Kids A-Z is a little "off" from the DRA level, and I will go in and adjust. We will be using this in class as well, so I will be able to adjust to the proper level.

Thanks so much. Let me know if you have any questions or if anything is not working on your end.

Hello Parents!   Image result for leader in me

Just a reminder, Monday, August 24 will be the last day to order Leader in Me t-shirts. Please try to order if at all possible because these will be the t-shirts we wear on field trips, and they can also be worn for Spirit Days throughout the year.

I will be sending home order forms tomorrow just in case you still need to order.

Just let me know if you have any questions.

Book Boxes/Graphing

Good afternoon Parents!

Two things:

First, I have sent home some graphing homework if you would like to review with your children. It is not a requirement, but we are having some struggles in class with this concept. If your child completes the homework easily, you can provide extension by asking them more questions about the graphs - how many more..., how many fewer..., etc.

Second, I am putting together book boxes for the students' reading stamina time. I have placed the books into a large baggie, but we would like to have book boxes for each child. If you could, please send in a cereal box like below, and I can place the students' books into their own book boxes. I told the children they can even decorate their boxes to make it their own.

Thanks so much!

Good afternoon Parents! I hope you had a great weekend!

This week we will be working on graphing - bar graphs and picture graphs. The students will not only be analyzing and interpreting graphs, but they will be required to create them as well. I will be putting some links on the blog if you want to allow the students to just "play" a little with graphing to become more familiar with the concept.

Just let me know if you have any questions!

Please be on the lookout for the behavior charts coming home today. We put them in the SHARK folder. Please sign and return them Monday.

If a Behavior OOPS! was sent home, please also sign and return along with the reflection.

I'm so happy I was able to see you all at Open House!  Thank you so  much for coming!

If you ever have any questions or need anything, just let me know.

SHARK Folders/Wish List

Good afternoon Parents!

We had another great day in First Grade!

Just a few items...

First, the SHARK folders came home today. I talked to the kids about these today and how they are responsible for taking it home and bringing it back to school. You can use the SHARK folder for any communication through the agenda or notes in the binder. I will also include more resources like the sight words that are currently located in the front. Eventually, behavior sheets will also be sent through the SHARK folder. Please do not remove the items in the plastic sleeves but use them as a resource. I've let the children know they are responsible for taking care of their SHARK folders. :)

Also, please remember to send in a healthy snack for your child each day, and they may also keep a water bottle on their desks if you want to send one.

Last, I just wanted to let you know about some wish list items for our classroom. If you can help provide board games, card games, puzzles, etc. for indoor recess or free time, that would be wonderful. Also, we are in desperate need of playground equipment for recess. I have a few items, but not much. The students would love balls, jump ropes, hula hoops, or any kind fun things they can play with during recess. We all would appreciate anything anyone would be able to donate.

Thanks so much!!

Please remember to check your child's backpack tonight for the Cobb County folder. This folder includes several items that need to be completed and returned to school.

Also,  please remember that no transportation changes can be made through email. We often do not see emails until after school has dismissed. You can write a note in the agenda, include a note in the take home binder (when it starts coming home :)  ), or you can contact the front office.

If your child has not completed the "All About Me" bag please continue to send these in. If you did not make it to Meet and Greet, I put the folders in your child's cubbie to be sent home tomorrow.  This folder includes the "All About Me" bag.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!  It was a great first day!
