Subtraction Strategies

I am excited to announce that our classroom will be holding a holiday book exchange on December 18, 2015!
As you know, reading is so important and what better way to ring in the holiday season than celebrating with a new book?
Your child should bring a book that could be for a boy or a girl (gender neutral) wrapped in some fun wrapping paper with a tag telling who the book is FROM. We will be playing a game that will have us passing the books around and around, so we don’t know where they will “land” – maybe with a boy, maybe with a girl. That is why the books need to be gender neutral. Also, we have lots of super readers, so please do not get SUPER, SUPER simple books.
If you are exchanging a new book, please try to keep the book under $7. If you are exchanging a used book, please make sure it is gently used. Remember, this will be a brand new book to another child!
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you need help bringing in a book for the exchange. I am so excited because the children always have a wonderful time!
Happy shopping!

Dear Parents,
ALL ABOARD THE POLAR EXPRESS as we begin our Winter Literacy Adventure!

We are so excited for our special day we have planned for Friday, December 11th. Your child’s day will be filled with an abundance of hands-on learning that will provide a rich, meaningful connection to our literacy selection, The Polar Express. Thank you so much for all of your support. The first grade team is really excited for our learning filled day.

P.S. Great News! Your child may wear his/her pajamas on this magical day!  (Pants and tops only for the pajamas, please.  No night gowns and no slippers for safety reasons.)
                                                                      Thank you!

Welcome Back Parents!

I cannot believe it is almost December. Time is flying! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday break. I was fairly heartbroken because my oldest was unable to come home because of his duties as a filmer for the football team. They keep winning, so he had to stay! Unfortunately, this was my Thanksgiving picture of my kids! :(
However, I am very thankful everyone is happy and healthy, and hopefully he will be home for the winter break. :)

**Just a few reminders as we move into December:

Tomorrow is our next Gumball Math Test!
December 1 - Texas Roadhouse Night
December 5 - PTA Holiday Shoppe - 8:00AM - 11:30AM! I will be reading Holiday stories!
December 7 - Landform projects are due
December 8 - Zazby's Night
December 10 - First Grade performance!
December 18 - Book Exchange and Holiday Party!

**If your child completed the reading and/or math challenge over the break, please return by Wednesday.
**If you would like to volunteer to help decorate the stage for the First Grade performance, let me know.

Just a couple of reminders from our nurse:

LiceIf a student is out for lice, when they return the student must come to me to be checked before going to class. Parents must sent in proof of treatment.  That can be box from treatment, receipt from store where they bought it or a letter/receipt from commercial lice treatment.  Addison is a nit free school.  All nits must be combed out of hair before returning to school.

Cough drops - Cough drops may be carried by elementary school students.  However, parents must bring them in, in original container, fill out “Authorization to carry over the counter medication” form. They must come into the clinic with cough drops and form.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
