The leprechaun traps were a HUGE success!  Also, the opinion writing overall was great as well!  I am so proud of the students for all of the work they put into this. This was really a STEM activity since they had to engineer a trap (design, measure, etc.) AND explain the thinking behind the trap. Thank you so much for allowing the kids to complete this project!

The kids had a blast having lunch and ice cream on the stage with Mrs. Hallmark and Mr. Cohen. Thank you so much for participating in the Gimme 5 campaign! This certainly helps our school AND now we are the winners 2 years running!! :)

Congratulations to PAIGE CAMERON. She is our latest Super Starfish!

Week of March 6

Hello Parents!

Last week was a lot of fun, and now we are ready to hit the ground running to the end of the quarter! :)

The class nominated a new Super Starfish last week. The winner is Sarah Barton!

What your child is learning this week
In Math, we are continuing with two digit addition, and we are beginning two digit addition with regrouping. We begin by teaching them how to use base tens to regroup, not by "carrying" the one like most of us learned. Those who have mastered this concept will be participating in extension activities involving advanced addition, balancing equation with larger numbers, logic activities, exemplars, etc.
In Language Arts, we are focusing more on how to determine the central message of a text. Also, we will be practicing more with punctuation and when to use periods, question marks and exclamation points.
In Writing, we are going to begin another opinion piece. We will be working on a piece about "What if you had animal feet?". We will be reading this text, and the students must choose an animal. They will need to develop reasons why they would want the animal feet and provide great support.
In Social Studies, we will begin to learn about tall tales. The students will be learning about Johnny Appleseed and John Henry and how they characterize our national heritage.
