Week of March 28

I hope everyone had a very enjoyable Easter with their family.  Only a few more days and we have a much needed break.

Please help your child remember to bring their homework back on Friday. Also please remember to fill out the reading log. If they do not complete homework or fill out the reading log they miss all or part of their recess.  Doing and bringing back homework is part of their responsibility as a student and will help them as they go through the grade levels.

What is Your Child Learning this Week?
In Math we will be continuing our unit on shapes. The students have been naming 2D and 3D shapes, describing defining and non-defining attributes, building the shapes with marshmallows and pretzels or playdoh and composing new shapes from other shapes. After spring break, we will begin partitioning shapes into halves and fourths.

In Reading/Language Arts, we have been working on vowel teams, contractions and using context clues to determine the meanings of words.

In Social Studies, we are continuing folktales by learning about John Henry and how he characterizes our national heritage.

In Science we are beginning our unit on Animals and what they need to survive.  We will be visiting the Science lab on Wednesday this week.

Important Dates:
March 28th - April 1st: Book Fair
Wednesday, March 30th: Kindergarten Registration
Thursday, March 31st: 3rd Grade Performance and PTA/Foundation meeting
Friday, April, 1st: FBI breakfast (Dad's come have breakfast with your child and then stay for the meeting)
April 4-8: Spring Break

Please keep practicing those subtraction math facts with your student.  Overall, the students are doing so much better with the subtraction.

Have a wonderful week

Please help me welcome Jocelyn to our class. We are very excited to have her in our class.
Congratulations to Sawyer Warren for becoming our next Leader of the Month!

I just have to say a huge "THANK YOU" to Sawyer's grandmother, Charlene Muller, for coming in to share her visit to Antarctica. It was an amazing visit. The students all loved it, and so did I! it also fit right in with our study of the continents!
